One event that I was particularly excited to cover was Brooklyn-based No Honeymoon’s mini-tour kickoff at sometimes burrito joint/most of the time venue, The Dopeness.
Kicking off the show was Done, an incredibly high energy dose of indie noise rock in the vein of bands such as Unsane and Shellac. These guys set the bar with not only their unique style of songs but with a strangely fitting mid-song cover of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”
Next up, the band of the hour, No Honeymoon, chilled everyone out with an amazing set of shoegaze jams. Guitarist and Jersey City local, Rob Scheuerman set the mood with some seriously spacey leads perfectly complimenting vocalist Caitlin Smith. These guys just dropped a surprise EP for free on their Bandcamp page that is an absolute must have.
Last up, Union NJ’s The Gray Company closed out the night with a distinctive style of funk-rock that got everybody’s heads bouncing to the beat. These guys really set the mood for the rest of my weekend and from the looks of it, everyone else who attended too.
