Navigating the sea of Jersey City bands has been anything but futile; the problem is there are just too many great bands to cover!
Black Wail is all about the riff, the groove and making sure that you are not only listening to their music but you are feeling it as well. Releasing their EP in September of last year this three-song powerhouse doesn’t disappoint. Starting track “Fools” is an absolute RIPPER. These guys are kicking out some serious jams (see what I did there?) with this party rock anthem will be sure to have you dancing along throughout. Next, “Dyed” comes at you with that groove I was talking about before. You know, that Black Sabbath groove, that groove that’s best felt when you aren’t particularly “sober.” The vocals bring me straight to early Ozzy and the simplistic guitar stylings are heavily influenced by the godfather of stoner metal himself Tony Iommi. Lastly, Black Wail wraps up with “Guillotine” a particularly trippy classic rock tinged tune where bassist Susan Lutin is just tearing it apart from the minute the songs starts right up until the second it ends.
Compared to their original demos this EP is a huge step forward for the band. These tracks really show the focus on the influences that are most important to the band and mainly the influences that work best. You can check out all their music and should throw them a like on their Facebook page at to stay up to date with future shows / recording.
