Voter Registration deadline – October 13, 2020
Last day to request a ballot to be mailed to you – October 23, 2020
Recommended deadline if voting by mail – October 27, 2020
Official General Election date, and deadline for all mail-in ballots – November 3, 2020
Filling out the ballot
Only use a pencil or black/blue ink pens to mark the ballot. You must completely fill in the oval to the right of your selections. Be careful to not incorrectly mark or tear the ballot, as you will have to obtain a new one from the Hudson County Clerk’s Election Office.
For Jersey City residents, there will be a municipal election for Ward D councilperson, a Board of Education election, and a municipal question regarding the Arts and Culture Tax Levy.
Don’t forget about the state public questions on the back of the ballot! For this election, there are three state public questions regarding (1) a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana, (2) a property tax deduction and exemption for peacetime veterans, and (3) a constitutional amendment to change the legislative redistricting schedule if census data is delayed. Be sure to flip your ballot and vote for each question.
Sign the ballot, and make sure it matches the signature in your voting record. The county Board of Elections will be matching signatures and will contact you if there are any issues.
If you opt for in-person voting rather than a mail-in ballot, you can visit your polling location on election day (November 3) and fill out the provisional paper ballot. Voting machines will only be available to those who certify they have a disability that prevents them from voting on a paper ballot.
Where to drop off your ballot
There are four ways you can return your ballot: by mail, by dropbox, by Board of Elections office, and by polling place. All ballots must be delivered or postmarked by 8PM on November 3rd to be valid.
