November 3rd is here. We honestly don’t know what’s to come of this election, and that’s led people to start planning for any possible situation. If you’re not sure what to do for Election Night, consider some ideas that have been circling the Internet this past week or find something local.
It’s also important to remember that the final results might not be available on election night. Between mail-in ballots and in-person voting, there may be a delay and we could be left waiting for an extra day or two. Plan accordingly for the stressful week ahead of us.
Election night ideas
Head to your favorite bar
You deserve a drink on what may be one of the most stressful days we’re experiencing this year. Visit your local bar, who may be showing the results in real-time on TVs, if available. Remember, there’s still a virus going around so call ahead to determine the bar’s capacity or find available reservations.

Stay home
Don’t feel safe being at an election party? We don’t blame you – things can turn if results don’t go the way we hope, and we’re still living with a pandemic in the area. Stay home to stay safe and make a night of it! Make yourself a drink, smoke a little, watch movies. Plenty of people have decided to tune out for the night and ignore their phones/laptops/TVs until Wednesday morning. You could even go to bed early and sleep through the stressful night. It’s all about self-care tonight.
Visit family/close friends
If you’d like to make the night less overwhelming, put yourself in the good company of close friends and family. Having people around you that you trust could make the night easier to get through and you could all plan fun activities to distract from the stressful night.
Preparing for the reactions
Get your essentials ahead of time
People have suggested preparing go bags with essential items and important documents in the case that your area sees riots, destruction, or other extreme reactions to the election results. If you feel the need to do so, please prepare for the night. Go grocery shopping before the night comes, refill necessary prescriptions, check in on loved ones, and maybe even spend some time away from home if you don’t feel safe.
As always, stay safe
Protests are bound to break out on either side, regardless of the outcome. If Biden wins, Trump supporters are likely to cause a scene. If Trump wins, everyone else will likely lead marches against the results. Whether you join the protests or decide to stay home, please be sure to stay safe. We don’t know what will happen with this election.
Regardless of what you decide to do tomorrow, whether it’s going offline completely or watching the news all day, make sure you’re surrounded by people you trust and have a safe, enjoyable night.
