7 weeks ago, the halls of MS7 went quiet but for the staff of MS7, nothing skipped a beat. They woke up that Monday morning ready to run their classes like they would if the kids were sitting in front of them. My staff has lost family members, been sick themselves, and have missed some major milestones in their own lives but have never once stopped doing what they do for the students of MS7.
We talk about heroes a lot these days and, to me, these are my heroes. It is the Crisis Intervention Teacher who went to home after a fire to make sure the family had food and clothes, it is the guidance counselors and service broker who hear the crying sounds of parents who can’t afford the next meal, it is community aide who calls and calls till someone answers, the Child Study Team members who are on the front lines with some of our most fragile students. The clerks who come to school to make sure the staff members gets paid, cumes get organized, orders get placed and phone calls made. The security guards, custodians and lunch aides who still venture in to make sure our kids are fed. The teacher who has a visual production studio that is going to make sure the 8th graders have the most amazing virtual graduation ever. It is the Assistant Principal who had a tragedy of her own, but never once stopped caring for the staff and students. The teachers and support staff wake up every day and teach the 920 students of Franklin L. Williams MS7. These are the HEROES. These are the ones I have the honor of leading, these are the ones that make me a better person, a better mother and a better Principal. The city of Jersey City has mourned so much lately but they should stand in pride of the staff and students of MS7 because they are the heart of the city.
