Back when I was in elementary school, I always found the annual Science Fair to be extremely intriguing. Although science wasn’t my niche, I was really into designing presentation boards and getting them noticed. And in terms of getting noticed, 8th graders Lailany Maldonado, Nancy Do, Ivonne Ovalles, Gianna Quijada, and Sydney Kensley of P.S. #5, have really done an awesome job on doing so.
The girls managed to work on air quality improvement and they designed an alternative to a store-bought HEPA filter. They have already won $ 40,000 in technology for the school (P.S. #5) and are currently the only finalists from New Jersey in this national contest. They are competing against students who are older as well. What makes this even more compelling is that this is a group comprised of all girls. Woohoo for Women’s History Month!
So how can you, the reader, help? You could help them by heading to Twitter and Instagram to boost the girls’ ranking (they are currently in fourth place) by using the two hashtags in your tweets and Instagram posts: #samsungsolve and #samsungsolveps5 every day until April 1st. Your account must be public and every post with these hashtags count as a vote per day. So get out there are start voting! Good luck girls!
