An important part of being an ally of the LGBTQ+ community is playing an active role by gaining a perspective through listening and learning, speaking up and taking action for/with marginalized individuals, and providing support when needed. Jersey City is a diverse and generally accepting environment, and there are plenty of resources in the area for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.

Hudson County + New Jersey
Hudson Pride Center
Hudson Pride Center is a home for the LGBTQ+ community in the area. They provide a safe space as well as offer educational programs, testing and counseling, career development resources, and much more.

Hudson County HIV/AIDS Services Planning Council
The HIV/AIDS Services Planning Council provides resources for HIV/AIDS testing, support services, medical care, housing, mental health, PEP & PrEP counseling, and several other areas of health for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. While HIV/AIDS can affect anyone, individuals in the LGBTQ+ community, especially individuals of color, are more likely to be diagnosed with HIV.

LGBTQ Program – CarePoint Pride
CarePoint Health has partnered with Hudson Pride to develop inclusive models in the local healthcare system. They have also planned to help Hudson Pride host events and community activities including the trans youth camp Tertium Quid.

NJ Pride Center
The Pride Center of New Jersey is located in Highland Park. They provide support to the LGBTQ+ community and act as a space not only for resources but for individuals to socialize in a welcoming environment.

Crossroads Program
Crossroads is a program to empower youth who may be homeless, abandoned, abused, or otherwise at-risk. The reality is there are many families that aren’t tolerant of non-straight sexual identities and the children may need help. Crossroads provides that assistance to the best of their ability.

African American Office of Gay Concerns
The AAOGC in Newark helps men of color in the LGBTQ+ community by providing HIV/AIDS prevention services. The offer several programs, including an HIV Prevention & Education program and Food For Thought Sunday Socials.

Clubs in Schools/Youth Resources
LGBTQ+ youth may be able to find GSA clubs in their schools, which are alliances meant to act as a welcoming space for students.

The Trevor Project
The Trevor Project works toward providing crisis prevention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ individuals under 25. They have the Trevor Support Center for the LGBTQ+ community and allies to explore resources and find answers to frequently asked questions. The Trevor Project also has phone call, chat, and text capabilities for anyone who needs help.

DrugRehab.com provides information and support to people fighting substance abuse and addiction.
