Every day, there’s something new in the works as the country tries to crack down on the coronavirus spreading throughout communities.
As of March 16th, New Jersey has a curfew to restrict unnecessary travel between 8PM and 5AM. The state wants any residents who don’t need to travel to simply stay home. Casinos, gyms, and movie theaters are all closed until further notice. All restaurants and bars are now only allowed for takeout and delivery services. Public and private schools in the state are closed starting at the end of the school day on March 17th.
Mayor Fulop is also doing live daily updates this week on Facebook to answer concerns/questions from the city. Here are some updates:
Alternate-side parking is suspended. The enforcement of permit parking has been suspended.
A week’s worth of meals have been provided to seniors at local congregate meal sites, and grab and go meals will continue to be provided. All seniors will be shifted to Meals on Wheels programming.
Additional support services are available to seniors, including trips to supermarkets during designated senior shopping hours.
JC Response feature to be set up on the city site for at-home exercises, tools to work from home, and other similar resources.
Gyms, health care facilities, and fitness classes are closed until further notice.
For anyone interested in volunteering for seniors, the city is recommending social distancing until there is a safer process developed to prevent potentially spreading the virus to seniors.
Newport Centre will be closing, just like all other malls and facilities.
Parks will be closed throughout the city.
All non-essential businesses have been ordered to close until further notice.
Students can pick up meals from 15 locations throughout Jersey City. Crossing guards are available to help students picking up these meals.
For anyone who has been in contact with someone who is positive for COVID-19, the health department will reach out to you directly. The city is tracing each person and place these positive-tested individuals have been in contact with over the past few weeks.
If you are feeling sick and find that your symptoms align with those of COVID-19, reach out to your primary care physician for testing.
