The Jackson Hill pop-up is an initiative that started pre-lockdown. A very innovative approach to increasing small business presence in Jersey City. Spaces in Pop Up Jackson Hill are 10ft x 10ft converted shipping containers and access is given during business hours as well as an hour before and an hour after.
The container village is a product of a city-led innovation process that started a few years ago. The city’s innovation team, launched with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, spent a year probing the question of how City Hall could better support small businesses. The team’s research and interviews with stakeholders kept pointing to the same problem: high rents.
Currently at Jackson Hill there are various businesses and food trucks you can check out, just across the street from The City’s Annex building.
We went to check it out with Jersey City’s Business Administrator and two-time babe of JC, Brian Platt
Brian gave us a little tour, then we went to get Carolyn’s Soul Food which is just around the corner #shamelessplug while eating we also caught up with one of the Pop-up vendors, Jamal a local photographer who set up a mini-studio!
Check it out! 351 MLK Boulevard
