Youth in JC Kick-Off
Last September, we were proud to be a part of the Youth in JC launch event. Dozens of the area’s youth came out to network with professionals who offered career advice and mentorship in a wide range of fields. The evening also featured talks from keynote speakers, assemblywoman Angela V. McKnight, entrepreneur Nick Nwoke, and educator Clarence “Coach C” Collins. The second Youth Networking Event was held last month and featured a fantastic talk from Pamela Johnson, director of the Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Movement. We will be announcing the next Youth Networking Event very soon. Stay tuned!
Photography Exhibit
In November, we had the first exhibit of student work for the 2018/19 school year at the Journal Squared Sky Lounge. The exhibit featured recent photography work from our current students. Highlighting both their skills behind the camera and as digital editors, the event was a chance for parents and the community to see incredible progress our group has made in just a few short months. Thanks to Wealth & Co for helping organize and providing the delicious food for the event.
Featured Mentors
Shout out to all the awesome mentors we’ve had so far this school year! These folks have offered valuable insights for our students into a wide range of professions. Some highlights: photographer/designer Nabil Miftahi worked with students on smartphone photography. David Trotta of Whealth and Co led a workshop on food photography and social media marketing. Muñeca Mullins brought the class to her studio for a lesson on fashion photography. And Zeena Koda gave the class a tour of the Atlantic Records offices and led a presentation from her digital marketing team.
Want to Be a Mentor?
CCAJC is always on the lookout for class mentors to talk with our students about their professional experience. We love to hear from designers and marketers, but we also believe it’s important for our students to learn about a wide range of careers. Design and marketing are integral to almost every industry, so we want to hear from everyone! If you are interested, please fill out our online volunteer form and we will be in touch.
Support CCAJC
If you’d like to support our work and the continuation of our free after-school programming for Jersey City youth, please consider donating to CCAJC. Your support helps us increase the number of students we reach each school year and provide more opportunities for them to learn valuable professional and academic lessons.
Donations
We also accept tech donations for our classrooms. We are always looking for laptops (capable of running the Adobe Creative Cloud) and photography and videography equipment (cameras, lights, tripods, microphones, etc.) You can email info@ccajc.org if you have any equipment you’d like to donate!
Thank You!
We have been very fortunate to be supported by a number of fantastic individuals and organizations that make CCAJC possible, including:
Nick and Stephanie Nwoke
